Why I Moved to Wordpress

I started this blog in Blogger, just because it was the most convenient at the time, and for most people id imagine it is the most convenient blogging platform to publish on. It became apparent early on however that I wanted more freedom from my blogging platform, for a start I did not own the content of my own blog, Blogger did, and ultimately Google did. In addition I needed a more robust content management system in line with the open source ethos that I was developing my website in. In other words I had set up a MAMP local development server and wanted a CMS that would allow me to efficiently manage my blog on a local server. Although Ive not tried out many other blogging platforms (Moveable Type, Custom CMS etc) I am really pleased with the Wordpress system which allows for a sort of semi-semantic system that lends itself well to search engine optimization. There is also a great developer community around Wordpress which is always handy when your trying to get up and running or have any problems.

Whilst Wordpress allowed me to get my head around PHP and MySQL and open source in general, in future I’m looking for yet another leap in CMS capability. Thats why Ive been looking into Drupal and Joomla weighing up which one is best as these are once again a step towards a more robust platform that will allow me to create the community driven websites I’m heading towards. However I’m sure that I will continue to use Wordpress for my blog because its developer community is unrivaled, something which becomes evident in the steep learning curve of Drupal and Joomla. And there we have it, that is how I went from Blogger to Drupal via Wordpress. What are your experiences with CMS? let me know by using the comments section below.
